As Goldcorp explained, use of electric-powered vehicles decreases emissions and protects employee well-being, while negating the need to control diesel emissions by ventilation systems.
The four-month trial pits two EVs head-to-head in performance assessment. A MineCat UT150-eMV from Ontario-based Industrial Fabrication will be evaluated against a PapaBravo Marmot manufactured in Saskatchewan, which claims to reduce costs by 85% compared to diesel.
Goldcorp said it would share findings across operations and would consider use of electric vehicles at other mines if this trial proves successful.
