Matrix's IntelliZone - #1 U.S. Proximity Detection System Is IECEx Approved

Matrix Design Group, LLC (Matrix) has announced that its IntelliZone proximity detection system received IECEx approval from the Department of Industry's Mine Safety Technology Centre in Thornton, NSW, Australia.

This certification allows Matrix to enter the Australian marketplace and sell worldwide in other countries that follow IECEx standards.

Originally introduced to the North American coal mining market in 2009, IntelliZone is the leading proximity detection system in the U.S. and South Africa. IntelliZone's patented SharpZoneTM technology provides precise location of personnel around mobile machinery, allowing it to operate successfully in even the most challenging environments.

In contrast to the "bubble zones" found on other equipment, IntelliZone's "shaped zones" dynamically conform to a machine's shape, speed and direction, providing maximum productivity with minimal nuisance stops. With its advanced software positioning system and robust, fit-for-purpose hardware, it provides the lowest overall cost of ownership on the market today.

In Australia, Matrix has partnered with fellow high-tech developer Northern Lights Technologies (NLT) to manufacture, distribute and service the IntelliZone system.

"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to introduce our state-of-the-art technology to the Australian market," said Matrix President David Clardy. "This approval will allow us to immediately proceed with new installations."

The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), founded in 1906, is the leading authority on the global conformity of electrical and electronic technologies, currently with 85 countries as members and another 86 countries participating in the Affiliate Country Programme.

IECEx is the IEC system for certification to standards relating to equipment for use in explosive ("Ex") atmospheres.  The IECEx certification facilitates international trade in explosive atmosphere equipment and services. In fact, the United Nations, via UNECE, has endorsed IECEx as the internationally-recognized certification system for promoting the safety of equipment, services and personnel associated with devices, systems and installations used in explosive areas.
