Mining Operations Management

Inventory, WIP, Yield, and Recovery in heavy industry

Date: 19 July 2022

Watch Now

Measurements of quantities reported by the production system are often incorrect (calibration, operator errors, constraints, process bias, or lack of appropriate instrumentation).

Those managing the supply chain are also trying to manage expectations of operations teams who want to keep high inventory levels to avoid running out of stock, although this pushes up cost.

This session will cover considerations for calculating yield and recovery in complex processes where changes in inventory and WIP significantly impact daily outputs.

In addition, we will cover how a Mining Operations Management (MOM) solution can be leveraged for inventory management, automating production & performance reporting, reduce material losses and providing more agile operations.

Richard Bailey, MES Mining Consultant, Rockwell Automation / Owner & MD, The Start Group
Richard has been working in the mining industry for over 30 years, commencing as an undergraduate programming control-systems in the underground mines of Australia's east coast. In 1997 he project-managed half of the world's largest PLC/SCADA deployment at BHP's Olympic Dam Copper/Uranium mine in central Australia. Following that experience he moved to the USA to run the Americas operations for Citect Inc for four years before returning to Australia to setup his own company, specialising in MES solutions for mining and heavy industry. Since 2004 he has been a strategic partner for Rockwell Automation in Australia, and these days the two companies collaborate extensively to deliver strong, designed-for-purpose solutions to the industry.
