The scope of delivery includes Outotec’s proprietary Pure Jarosite process technology, a feed pre-treatment system for the roasting process, the mercury-removal process and its Otovent quench scrubber for off-gas treatment. Outotec will also deliver installation, commissioning and start-up supervision services for the solutions. The equipment will be delivered and taken into operation in 2018.
Outotec stated that with its technologies Met-Mex Peñoles will be able to treat finer zinc concentrates, improve the efficiency and capacity of its roasting process and reduce the gaseous emissions of the operations. The silver, zinc and lead recovery at the calcine-leaching plant will be improved by the newly commercialised Outotec Pure Jarosite process, the company claimed.
In 2015, Outotec provided atmospheric direct-leaching technology and an OKTOP reactor plant for the same project.
Kalle Härkki, head of the Outotec Metals, Energy & Water business unit, said: “We have partnered with the Peñoles Group for decades and are again proudly supporting their efforts to improve resource efficiency with our technologies. This addition to their zinc process will maximise valuable metals recovery, while reducing environmental impact of the operations.”
