Aboriginal trainees, under an agreement with Aboriginal Australian-owned workforce firm Karlayura Group, will be trained on installation, maintenance and repair of conveyor belt systems at Fortescue sites.

In addition, as part of contract negotiations, Fortescue and Rema will identify other opportunities within its supply chain to increase Aboriginal team member employment and development.

"We believe that providing economic opportunities through access to employment, training and business development pathways is key to sustainable futures for Aboriginal people," said Elizabeth Gaines, CEO of Fortescue Metals Group.

"We are pleased to be working with our contracting partners to develop programmes that support Aboriginal employment, and it is inspiring to see the positive contribution they make to communities."

Rema has provided belt and conveyor services for more than 10 years to Fortescue's sites.
