Sandvik has unveiled a climate action plan that includes its battery-electric vehicle technology and plans to reduce its carbon footprint. It will begin its work in Canada before the end of the year as it moves to be a flexible and sustainable organisation that responds to customers while also minimising its environmental harm.
As part of its plan, Sandvik has partnered with Northern College to create a technician education programme for BEVs. Doing so, it said, will help to build up a line of service specialists that will be trained to support the transition to battery-electrics with more electrical components and less mechanical ones.
"This transition will not happen overnight, but it begins with a few key changes that will support some more immediate needs of our customers and will jump-start our sustainability initiatives," Sandvik Canada VP Peter Corcoran said.
"BEVs are a large part of Sandvik Canada's sustainability plans. We envision ourselves as an enabler of zero emissions-mining through our battery-electric offerings."
Sandvik will be evaluating its presence in Ontario throughout next year, concentrating on its Mississauga corporate head office as it advances plans to improve energy consumption at its facilities. It has already started making changes at that location and will be doing more in the coming months.
