An RWE controlled joint venture between RWE Renewables and the City of Bedburg will set up five wind turbines that will feed into the grid. They are expected to be commissioned early in 2022.
The company said in a statement the planned facility is the sixth such installation in the mining district that includes the Hambach and Garzweiler opencut lignite mines.
RWE said it is close to reaching an installed wind power capacity of 200MW in the district and it is on track to be carbon neutral by 2040.
The company already operates onshore wind parks with a total installed capacity of approximately 650 MW in Germany and is currently constructing onshore wind farms in the US, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Italy and the UK.
