Under a laboratory services contract with Barrick, MSA Labs will use PhotonAssay to deliver ongoing on-site laboratory management and analysis services to the mine.
The PhotonAssay technology uses high energy x-rays to analyse gold, silver and complementary metals in as little as two minutes.
It allows samples of up to 500g to be measured and provides a bulk reading independent of the chemical or physical form of the sample. The x-ray assay process does not destroy the sample, meaning it can be kept for further analysis.
Bulyanhulu is a narrow-vein gold mine containing gold, silver and copper mineralisation in sulphides located in the northwest district of Tanzania. It started commercial production in 2001.
Earlier this year Canada-based gold miner Kirkland Lake Gold chose Chrysos' technology for its Fosterville gold mine in Victoria.
While the latest deal is for an Australian mine, it creates the potential for the technology to be taken into North America.
Chrysos also placed another two PhotonAssay units with mining contractor Perenti Group subsidiary Minanalytical and has another four covered under a heads of agreement. These units are for use in Australia.
