The new drill is designed for rotary and DTH holes of 152-251 millimetres (5.98-9.88 inches) with a standard mast that provides a first pass capability of 10 metres (33 feet) and maximum deapth of 32.3m (106ft) across any pipe diameters recommended.
The machine's extended mast option has a first pass option of 14m (46ft) and depth capacity of 32.3m (106ft) across all pipe diameters.

The DR401i is automation-ready when the OEM's AutoMine module is on board. It also has a number of safety features to reduce personnel risk, including anergonomic cab, a patented deck wrench to eliminate manual bit handling, a dedicated ladder and reinforced plastic and fiberglass grating.

Sandvik's Intelligent Control System Architecture (SICA) allows real-time feedback to an operator on the performance and health of the machine. Other features include a capability for a single-pass depth to 14m without adding pipe, 58,000 pound-feet (258 kN) of weight on the bit, onboard automated features Auto Drill and Auto Cycle, auto mast and auto level functions, and breakout wrench speeds that can change from one pipe to another.

"This automation-ready, mid-size drill provides mines in hard rock conditions with a powerful and productive option to safely drill the perfect hole, providing exceptional value," rotary drilling division president Dave Shellhammer said.
