The Innovation for Cleaner, Safer Vehicles (ICSV) initiative now has 27 members with 19 OEM participants, the ICSV's CEO advisory group noted at IMARC Online.

The OEMs that have joined since ICSV's October 2018 launch include 3MTech, Behault, Future Digital communications, MTU, Miller Technologies, Nerospec, Newtrax and Torsa, ICMM confirmed via e-mail.

The ICSV group's central objectives include introducing greenhouse gas emission-free surface mining vehicles by 2040, minimising the operational impact of diesel exhausts by 2025, and making vehicle collision avoidance technology available to mining companies by 2025.

"There is a critical need to advance work on cleaner, safer vehicles in mining, which will have important health and safety benefits and contribute towards the pressing need of decarbonising the mining industry", said Nick Holland, chief executive of Gold Fields and chair of the CEO advisory group.

The advisory group comprises BHP, Anglo American, Gold Fields, Caterpillar, Komatsu and Sandvik.

"[C]ollaboration with OEMs, through the ICMM, is critical as we look for these long-term, sustainable and integrated solutions."

The ICMM has released a ICSV Knowledge Hub for knowledge-sharing on safer vehicle innovations, as well as ‘maturity frameworks' that the organisation says will help measure progress against objectives.

"Progress made on the Innovation for Cleaner, Safer Vehicles initiative has been building the widespread confidence needed to accelerate the level of innovation investment required to scale up commercial solutions," said Tom Butler, chief executive of the ICMM.
