Xerotech and Agder to create electric mining fleet

Hibernium modular battery platform can be used in light or heavy equipment

The companies plan to use Xerotech's Hibernium modular battery platform for the modification - the pack system can be used by OEMs to electrify fleets with battery systems ranging from increments of 15kWh up to 250kWh.

Xerotech says its integrated power conversion and storage module benefits from component commonality, and that it has triple the run-time and double the cooling capacity of existing battery solutions.

"Until now, it has been virtually impossible for construction and mining equipment suppliers to electrify these low-volume high-diversity machines," said  Dr Barry Flannery, chief executive and founder of Galway-based Xerotech.

"The partnership with Agder Gruppen is very exciting for Xerotech as their equipment portfolio is exactly what we designed our Hibernium platform for."

The scalable aspect of Xerotech's off-the-shelf battery systems means it can be used in equipment ranging from light utility vehicles up to 400-tonne dump trucks. A liquid thermal management and safety technology called Xerotherm is used to prevent overheating during extended use.

Thomas Tomaszewski, VP of business development at Xerotech, said Scandanavia is an emerging region for electrified mining machinery.

"The Scandinavian market is at the forefront of heavy-duty electrification worldwide, and our partnership with Agder will enable both of our companies to lead the market's transition to zero-emission machinery."
