Future of Mining EMEA Highlights

The first edition of the Future of Mining EMEA conference took place at 8 Northumberland Avenue from 4th - 5th September 2019.

The Conference, which was organised in conjunction with Mining Magazine, brought together over 200 senior mining executives to discuss and debate the current and future mining landscape.

The agenda was designed to focus on the themes of Social License, Sustainability, Risk Management, Digital Strategy and Industry Collaboration

We saw Nicky Black, Managing Director of Social & Economic Development at ICMM discuss how the social license to operate issue has transformed in recent years to one of the primary challenges facing the mining industry globally today; Daria Goncharova, Chief Sustainability Officer at Polymetal International PLC shared her expertise on how to limit the mining industries environmental footprint. The audience was also treated to a keynote panel on how Miners can integrate an effective digital strategy into their operations. The panel included top mining experts, Nestor Aleman Esteban, Regional IT Project Manager - West Africa, Kinross Gold; Dr Gargi Misram Principle Consultant, Hatch; Maxelino Nelson, Global Industry Leader, IBM & Dr Declan Vogt, Lecturer - Robotics & Automation, Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter.

With its diverse content programme, the conference enabled a wide variety of conversations and connections in all avenues of mining and gave opportunity for the attendees to establish lasting relationships which go beyond the scope of the conference.
