Canadian-based Eastern Platinum (Eastplats) has successfully commissioned its PGM main plant circuit B in South Africa following the completion of upgrade and refurbishment work.
The company said commercial production of PGM concentrates started on 18 October 2021 and it is now able to consistently produce platinum group metal concentrates.
It predicted the plant will create an additional 600 tonnes of PGM concentrate per month on top of the current capacity of 200 tonnes once it is fully operational, projected to be in Q1 2022.
Diana Hu, chief executive officer and director, said the commissioning of the PGM main plant circuit B represents a "significant milestone" in the company's revenue growth plans.
Additionally, Hu said it will also expand the company's future development potential, including the possibility to restart underground operations at the Crocodile River Mine to provide economic, social and labour benefits.
