Metso Outotec has won a contract to deliver key technology to Norway's Boliden Odda zinc smelter as part of the Green Zinc Odda Project.

The company said that Boliden Odda is planning to increase its annual production capacity of zinc metal from 200,000 to 350,000 tonnes. Additionally, it said 90% of the deal had been booked in Metals' Q4/2021 orders received and the rest in Minerals' Q4/2021.

Its scope of delivery includes roasting and off-gas cleaning solutions and a sulphuric acid plant.

The company will also supply hydrometallurgical equipment and technology for calcine leaching, solid-liquid separation, solution purification, and process and plant engineering and site services.

The delivery, worth €150 million (US$169.73 million), will take place between 2022 and 2024.

Jari Algars, president, metals business area at Metso Outotec, said the Green Zinc Odda project "paves the way for more sustainable zinc production," describing it as "an important milestone" for the company's relationship with Boliden.
