Approximately 15 new aviation jobs are being created at Cobham in Adelaide as a result of the contract being awarded, which includes a three-year extension option. Services will commence in August 2017 and involve up to 20 flights a week using a mix of jet and turbo-prop aircraft to suit OZ Minerals' custom requirements.
Cobham Aviation Services chief executive Peter Nottage said that the contract award reflected Cobham's competitive offering within a highly cost-driven environment.
He noted: “We have been providing safe, reliable and efficient aviation services to the mining and resource sector in Australia for more than 25 years and our flight and cabin crew are highly regarded for their outstanding professionalism and personalised service. We are delighted to extend our services to OZ Minerals and look forward to commencing operations in the coming months.”
John Penhall, general manager at Prominent Hill, added: “We are looking forward to working closely with Cobham Aviation Services. The change has allowed us to increase our operating flexibility and maintain our commitment to capital discipline without compromising on the level of service provided to our FIFO employees. Additionally, partnering with Cobham supports South Australian jobs with their headquarters based in Adelaide.”
