The company currently ships parts to its 40-plus Canadian dealers from facilities in the US.
The new 181,000ft2 (16,800m2) parts distribution centre replaces a regional parts depot there, and now those in major markets across the country will be able to receive crucial parts by 8am the next day after the order is placed.
“This new facility is a key step in our journey to be number one in machine uptime in the industry,” vice president of aftermarket and customer solutions for Volvo CE Region Americas Ken Silverman said.
“Today’s customers have an expectation of next-day delivery, and the new distribution centre, located near Toronto’s main international airport hub, will improve our lead times and give us the ability to deliver parts anywhere in Canada by early AM the next day.”
Jack Bradly, who serves as supply chain vice president for Volvo Canadian dealer Strongco, added that the new centre will significantly help it to avoid customs delays.
“Now we will have much faster lead times and easier access to fast-moving parts,” he said. Strongco vice president of the construction equipment division Oliver Nachevski added that it will provide its customer base improved access to critical inventory from within its own borders.
The support distribution centre will be operated by Volvo Group Service Market Logistics. In addition to providing parts for Volvo CE dealers, the distribution centre will also provide parts for Volvo’s other business areas.
