The ventilation provider will design, manufacture and supply a bifurcated axial flow fan station, a solution to extract fumes, as well as auxiliary and booster fans.

The company, which noted that the new contract is one of many in the region it is involved with, will also oversee installation and assist with commissioning.

The contract was first secured last October, and commissioning at the site outside of Kolwezi is scheduled for July.

TLT-Turbo Africa was appointed by DRA Projects, which is handling engineering, procurement and construction management on the project.

Looking at logistics alone, the project presents unique challenges, according to TLT-Turbo's Madeleine Pretorius.

"The site is remote, and it involves multiple border crossings and often poor road conditions. This means complicated logistic solutions."

Kamoa Copper SA forms part of the Kamoa-Kakula copper project, itself a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines, Zijin Mining Group and the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Mining from the Central African Copper Belt, the larger Kamoa-Kakula group project has been called the world's largest undeveloped high-grade copper discovery.
