In August of last year, Rio Tinto awarded a contract to Monadelphous for the West Angelas expansion project, which involves the development of two additional deposits.

The Perth-based engineering firm is supplying and installing the structural, mechanical, piping and electrical and instrumentation works for the new iron ore facilities, as well as making modifications to existing plant.

Now Monadelphous has brought in material processing specialist Rema Tip Top's Australian arm to provide splicing capabilities across more than 10 kilometres of new overland conveyor and modifications to three existing plant conveyors at the Deposits C & D project.

CEO of Rema Tip Top Asia Pacific Benedikt Schneider said he was excited to be strengthening the company's partnership with Monadelphous.

"This new contract with Monadelphous speaks to their trust in our ability to get the job done on time, to specification and with safety performance of paramount importance," he said.

With a total of 39 splices across five conveyors, with run-of-mine (ROM) and overland conveyors connecting the site with Rio Tinto's existing West Angelas process plant and stockyard, the A$1.2 million (US$770,000) scope of works is set to commence this quarter.
