The firm has launched a subsidiary, Epsilon Advanced Materials, with the aim of leveraging its access to a raw coal tar supply to become a supplier of synthetic graphite material to cell manufacturers and energy storage device makers.

Epsilon Advanced Materials has already commissioned production in India to produce 5,000 t/yr of anode material initially. It plans to triple this unit's capacity to 15,000 t/yr in 2021 before further expanding to 50,000 t/yr by 2025.

It has initiated trials with anode material producers, and established a research and development laboratory to cover a complete array of carbon material testing as well as cell and pouch lithium battery cell testing.
