Golder was made prime contractor for the project, which includes decommissioning the open pit, dismantling of surface infrastructure, rehabilitating the site and establishing long-term monitoring. The consultant will also oversee associated demolition activities.
The company said it is dedicated to offering employment to indigenous community members as it seals up work on Victor, an open-pit and remote fly-in/fly-out complex which was in operation from 2008 to 2019. That includes direct hires of operators and labourers and the contracting of Indigenous companies for services.
"Golder is working closely with De Beers Group to provide beneficial skills training and business development opportunities that will serve the community beyond the conclusion of closure activities," Golder said.
"Former Victor employees, who bring valuable skill sets and knowledge of the site infrastructure and operations, have also been hired to support the closure work."
The consulting group mobilised to the site on January 1. Work is projected to be completed in 2023.
