National helps BHP Bowen Basin ops dig in

Company recently delivered two new units to pair of coal operations

Both of National's latest excavator deliveries were to BHP coal mines in Australia

The first was the newest fleet addition at BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance's (BMA) Peak Downs complex. The delivery of the Hitachi EX5600 follows National's September 2018 arrival at the site with a group of five Liebherr Ultra-Class T 282C trucks.

The second delivery was to BMA's sister operation, the BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC) Poitrel operation. That unit, a Liebherr R 996B, is the first past of the fleet at the coal mine to come from National.

"We know how difficult it can be to get the bigger gear to Australia first of all, let alone having to worry about everything else once it arrives here," founder and managing director Mark Ackroyd said.

"That is why we have worked very hard to build brands that complement each other in the entire journey of port-to-pit."

He also hinted at National's plan to enter the automation space and invest in technology as its pace continues to pick up in the new year.

"The mining industry is now following the technology trend around the world and automation is at the forefront of this," Ackroyd said. "It is all about finding different ways to help your customers succeed and embracing innovation to get that edge over competitors."

Late last year, National Mining Services confirmed delivery of three new ‘ultra-class' Komatsu 930E dump trucks and a Liebherr R 9800 excavator to another Oz coal project, Idemitsu's Boggabri open-cut complex in the Gunnedah Basin of New South Wales.
