The equipment maker said that the capacity used by its surface and exploration drilling division will be consolidated and expanded. The expansion will involve a new building that will house assembly as well as office space.

Örebro currently produces surface drill rigs, including the SmartROC and FlexiROC models, and eventually will also make exploration and geotechnical drilling equipment, though the company did not outline the plan's specifics.

Construction of the expansion for the plant, which currently employs about 400 people, will begin this year. It has targeted 2021 to inaugurate the location.

It is not the first investment in Örebro for Epiroc: in late May, the company began work on a new 1,400-square-metre heat treatment line for rock drills that will be online by 2020. Moreover, last year, it unveiled the Control Tower, its collaboration arena for customer and partners to share ideas with Epiroc.
