ABB
ABB will present its industry-specific portfolio for the entire mining value chain, including mining motors; variable speed-controlled drive solutions for load and haul equipment and minerals processing; automotive wiring harness protection; automation solutions for mining, processing and transport of raw materials; and the ABB Ability MineOptimize digital portfolio.
ABB will have a controller in its booth to show how it takes information from various sensors on mining equipment and processes it with specialised software. This package makes it easy for the users to get the information they need about the state of their mining equipment so they can make informed decisions.
ABB will also have one of its HES880 traction converters available on the stand. This is a motor controller that's been designed for mobile mining equipment. The HES880 is part of ABB's optimised e-drivetrain platform that combines a motor, drive and vehicle control unit to transition from diesel to zero-emission electric operation. Epiroc, a manufacturer of underground mining and infrastructure equipment, has already adopted this concept for its second-generation battery-powered vehicles.
The ABB Ability Smart Sensor for mounted bearings will also be on display. The sensor enables ‘health checks' for bearings and provides an early indicator of potential problems to prevent unexpected downtime and extend equipment life. The bearing is part of the ABB Ability Digital Powertrain monitoring services that provide advanced analytics and maintenance planning to ensure efficient operation of powertrain equipment, including drives, motors, mounted bearings and pumps.
Allison Transmission
Allison Transmission will exhibit its off-highway series of fully automatic transmission models at Bauma.
Allison offers excellent reliability for the toughest applications by dump trucks, tippers and concrete mixers, with products that are specified by OEMs such as Terex Trucks, Bell Equipment and Volvo Construction Equipment. Allison's booth will feature a cutaway model of the 4000 Series transmissions as well as an interactive augmented reality experience whereby visitors will be able to rotate transmissions 360° and go inside an Allison transmission.
With Allison's Continuous Power Technology, drivers can achieve faster acceleration, increased operational flexibility and increased productivity. An Allison fully automatic transmission increases power while a manual or automated manual transmission (AMT) loses power with every shift. Trucks are easy to manoeuvre, to creep in soft soil and to navigate in tight spaces. They are better on hills thanks to the 2nd Reverse feature and have more control on steep grades. All Allison Transmissions are equipped with Allison's FuelSense 2.0 software, which can allow fleets to optimise fuel economy and performance to their specific needs.
The company states that a construction or mining vehicle fleet equipped with Allison transmissions will enjoy more uptime and lower maintenance costs. Manual clutches wear and eventually burn out, which means a vehicle spends more time being repaired and less time on the road. In contrast, Allison Automatics require only periodic oil and filter changes.
Dana Incorporated
Dana will preview two new electric drivetrain solutions for off-highway vehicles, including the Spicer Electrified e-Axle and Spicer Electrified e-Gearbox. These technologies enable electrified propulsion within established vehicle architectures by leveraging the company's portfolio of motors, inverters and controls.
The Spicer Electrified e-Axle combines Dana's field-proven heavy axle design with a high-efficiency TM4 SUMO HP motor/generator and inverter combination for medium-sized mining trucks, medium-sized load haul dumpers and large lift trucks.
Supplying 139kW of continuous power and 193kW at peak power, the TM4 motor/generator and inverter are joined at the centre housing of the axle to provide needed torque and efficiency within the space typically allotted for an internal-combustion engine and transmission.
The Spicer Electrified e-Gearbox features a compact design that manages high input speeds and accommodates the installation of an electric motor. It offers a highly engineered interface for connecting cost-effective motors used in electrification with conventional Spicer hydrostatic transmissions.
Its plug-and-play design combines Dana-supplied TM4 and SME electric motors with Spicer hydrostatic transmissions for small- and medium-sized wheel loaders up to 10t and telehandlers with lift capacities up to 6.8t.
Dana is also debuting the Spicer TE50 powershift transmission, which is designed for large load haul dumpers, trucks used in underground mining and wheel loaders. Engineered for vehicles from 400kW to 600kW, the Spicer TE50 transmission offers higher performance through improved fuel efficiency, smoother shifting, more precise vehicle handling and optimised braking.
John Deere Power Systems
John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) will be showcasing its Industrial Stage V engine lineup. This includes its variable-speed engine families below 56kW (75hp) and above 130kW (174hp) as well as its constant speed engine families. The Industrial Stage V lineup offers ratings from 36 to more than 500kW (48 to more than 670hp) with displacements of 2.9L through the upcoming 13.6L.
As both an engine and machine manufacturer, John Deere boasts 1 billion hours of global experience with diesel particulate filter technologies which it says forms the basis of its proven emissions solutions provided to OEM customers.
"Through each consecutive stage of emissions regulations, John Deere has provided solutions that addressed key customer needs. These included increased uptime, low operating costs and applies to Stage V," said Sandrine Couasnon, manager, marketing services and sales engineering for Europe, Africa and the Middle East at JDPS.
Stage V aftertreatment technologies from John Deere are optimised for flexible integration and several offer reduced packaging and weight from previous Stage IV solutions. And because the technologies are built on the same engine platform as current Stage IV solutions, the need for OEMs to re-engineer due to hardware or mounting changes is reduced.
"Our goal is to continue to provide a strategic advantage to our global OEM customers as we move into Stage V, just as we've done with prior regulation changes," Couasnon said. "And with our worldwide service network of more than 4,000 locations, customers can find support wherever it's needed."
TE Connectivity
TE Connectivity, a specialist in connectivity and sensors, will display its HDSCS connector series at Bauma 2019.
This growing product line offers solutions for applications where sealed, rugged connections are needed. HDSCS connectors are made of heavy-duty UL 94-V0-rated thermoplastic and are designed to withstand the harsh conditions of the construction and mining industries.
HDSCS connectors utilise TE's field-proven AMP MCP contacts and are offered in arrangements from two through 18 positions, making it one of the largest sealed connector families on the market.
HDSCS connectors feature an integrated secondary lock with a poka-yoke feature that can be used for inline applications or for flange mounting in wire-to-wire or wire-to-device configurations. Rated to IP67 and IP6K9K (when used with a backshell), HDSCS connectors are available in five housing sizes with four keying options. Solutions for CAN bus architecture are also available. Accessory items, such as fixing slides for mounting the connectors, protection caps that protect the connectors when not mated, and backshells that offer additional protection further enhance the connectors' flexibility.
HDSCS connectors can provide reliability and performance on the engine or transmission, under the hood, on motor controllers and solenoid interfaces, on the chassis or in the cab.
Volvo Penta
Volvo Group's engine specialist, Volvo Penta, has been working on its Stage V engine range for off-road applications. The company said in a press release: "Volvo Penta has responded to the introduction of the world's toughest emission regulation, Stage V for Europe, valid from January 2019 with a sophisticated new range of engines offering easy installation, operation and maintenance - all while meeting the stringent requirements."
One major driver in the development of Volvo's Stage V range has been ensuring the engines and exhaust aftertreatment system work seamlessly together. This maximises passive regeneration during normal operation and, therefore, removes the need for stand-still regeneration, boosting customers' uptime, productivity and profitability.
"In our new Stage V range, the engine and exhaust aftertreatment system work in perfect synergy forming a powerful unit that meets the demands of many different applications, especially when conditions are challenging," said Giorgio Paris, head of the industrial business segment at Volvo Penta.
At Bauma, Volvo Penta will showcase its full range, including the new Stage V D5, D8, D11, D13 and D16 engines which offer power from 105-585kW (143-796hp).
