Samancor will pilot the Swedish firm's PWR BLOK 400-F technology, a container-based solution in which engines are used to harness energy from flare and industrial residual gas, at its TC Smelter in South Africa.

The MoU covers a potential installation of up to 45 PWR BLOKs corresponding to 18 MegaWatts at each of the Mooinooi, Emalahleni and Burgersfort smelters respectively, which equals a total of up to 135 PWR BLOK units and 54 MW power generation.

The firms said details regarding future installations will be announced when the parties have concluded binding agreements.
