Ora Banda Mining and EVOL LNG, part of Wesfarmers, signed a deal for the latter to build, operate and maintain an on-site LNG storage and vaporization facility at the mine complex in the Goldfields region.

The operation has been in care and maintenance since 2018 and is planned to restart production in January 2021.

The new facility will use EVOL LNG's modular design for fast installation as well as future expandability as needed.

The mine will use EVOL LNG to fuel a 7.5-MegaWatt power station.

The LNG supply is expected to start in December and come from EVOL LNG's Kwinana production plant in Western Australia, which was expanded this year.

"We are excited to support the Davyhurst mine back into production. Ora Banda is now our ninth mining customer and we are keen to provide them with the benefits and value that are afforded to EVOL LNG's customers," EVOL LNG manager Nick Rea said.

Ora Banda Mining managing director and CEO David Quinlivan said: "The use of LNG as the primary fuel source for the Davyhurst power station provides significant environmental benefits. The company estimates its power generation greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by approximately 25,000 tonnes during the initial five years of operation when compared to conventional diesel power generation."
