Cummins launches new PowerCommand for microgids

Power systems maker Cummins has unveiled its new product line of controllers, PowerCommand Microgrid Control, for the microgrid and energy management markets.

The PowerCommand line includes the new MCG300 and MCG900 controllers

The PowerCommand line, which includes the new MCG300 and MCG900 controllers, have been created to manage, coordinate and optimise distributed energy resources (DERs).

The power OEM called the line a "one-stop-shop suite of solutions" that includes new hardware, software and services for customers' acquisition, management and servicing of microgrid controllers.

"The features ... optimise DERs (distributed energy resources) for existing users and accommodate prospective DER adopters - particularly those reluctant to enter a previously dispersed distributed generation universe with many standalone products."

In addition to the new controllers, which can now accommodate both renewable energy and stationary storage integration into a microgrid, the programme's key features include a flexible pricing scheme to help customers with any objectives, constraints and budget be able to secure a tailored system.

Additionally, the controls are compatible for large, medium, small and micro-project sizes, and feature a user-friendly human machine interface (HMI) that includes DERs along with the traditional sources.

PowerCommand controls are available in various applications; in addition to mining, they can be used for electric power generation and distribution systems, industrial plants, data centers, commercial buildings, hospitals, wastewater treatment plants, transportation systems, pipeline stations and more.

Ann-Kristin deVerdier, executive director of the Cummins Energy Management segment, said Cummins has been investing in "future technologies" as well as products to meet global emission requirements.

"For the power generation market, this includes integrated microgrid solutions with battery storage, system-level controls and over time, hydrogen technologies in addition to diesel and natural gas. With the addition of the PowerCommand microgrid controllers, Cummins continues to build on an ecosystem of products that work efficiently together to simplify and integrate microgrid deployments."
