Scatec will deliver and operate a pre-assembled and containerised 8.5 MW solar PV plant under a lease agreement to the mines, located in the Guerrero Gold belt 180 km southwest of Mexico City, with an initial contract of 10 years.
The company noted that the plant's modular structure means it can be expanded and battery storage added at any time.
The new plant is expected to reduce Torex' Scope 2 greenhouse emissions by up to 8.6% using 2019 as the baseline year.
"We have had a good cooperation with Torex in designing the solution to adapt to challenging topography," said Hans Olav Kvalvaag, SVP Release at Scatec.
He added that the company's ‘Release' model suits mining applications due to its flexibility in contract term and capacity. Scatec provides monitoring, analysis, and maintenance from a control centre in Cape Town
