Cummins is able to assist miners as they struggle with expected power outages, referred to as ‘loadshedding' in South Africa.
South African Cyril Ramaphosa said Nov. 25 that loadshedding was "inevitable", as Eskom's aging power plants are unable to keep up with energy demand in the country.
Cummins can provide mining companies with a 3,750 kVA unit, which is also energy-efficient and complies with international emission standards. They also have a high fuel tolerance level, which is a requirement for high-energy operations.
The company can also provide one-stop back-up power requirements for large scale mining operations, in addition to all the necessary components.
For companies that have more than one asset or site to manage, Cummins' PowerCommandCloud 550 enables customers to remotely monitor gensets on different sites, as well as oversee transfer switches and output controls. No additional software is required, as the software runs on Microsoft Silverlight.
Cummins also offers on-site training for customers at a specialised facility, where certified technicians will provide assistance on all engine types. For companies and projects looking to switch to alternative sources of power, Cummins can assist mining projects with the design phase.
