Golden Dawn to reactivate Greenwood mill

The Greenwood gold processing plant is located in southeastern British Columbia, approximately 500km east of Vancouver. Golden Dawn is focused on reactivating the processing plant for toll milling of material from the nearby mines.

The mill was built in 2007 by Merrit Mining and operated between April and December 2008, when it closed due the global financial crisis and a lack of financing. Golden Dawn purchased the mill in 2016 along with the Lexington and Golden Crown mines, and has now received permits to restart the mill and process material from the Lexington mine.

The mill is a permitted crushing, grinding and gravity flotation facility with a 200t/d processing plant, an assay laboratory, tailings storage facilities and other associated assets. The equipment has been under care and maintenance since the mill closed in December 2008, and is reportedly in good condition.

In the eight months that the facility was operating, it processed material from the Lexington-Grenoble mine. It produced 5,418oz of gold, 3,196oz of silver and 861,281lb of copper from 53,782 tonnes of material during in that period of operation.

The plant's two marketable products were trucked from the site to Vancouver - a gravity-gold concentrate that was refined to doré bars before being sold, and gold-copper concentrate that was marketed to a commodities buyer.

The processing plant and crushing equipment need to be refurbished in preparation for production. As part of this step, Golden Dawn needs to refurbish the crusher and plant equipment, upgrade the existing electrical and mechanical installations and install an ancillary first aid room, wash facilities and new offices.

In terms of paperwork, the company needs to complete environmental management plans that are required for the Mines Act permit, complete an application for an environment discharge permit, as well as completing health and safety audits and implementing monitoring programmes.

When the site is operational at 200t/d, Golden Dawn will consider engineering design works to increase the tailings capacity as well as permitting to upgrade the plant to 400t/d. To do this, the company would need to design and construct one or more raises to the final tailings dam height, or potentially install a dry-stacking tailings system, an additional ball mill (or other larger capacity mill) and add to the gravity and flotation processing circuits.

To re-open the Lexington mine, Golden Dawn would need to undertake rehabilitation, pre-production development and initial mining before any gold-copper material will be available for processing at the plant. The company is considering the necessary requirements for this.

It is also conducting exploration for additional gold-copper deposits in the area, and recently finished an airborne geophysical survey of the property that it expects to identify high-quality drilling targets.
