PRESS RELEASE: The Yarwun refinery, which is 100% owned and operated by Rio Tinto Aluminium, processes bauxite from the company's mining operations in Weipa on Western Cape York.
Several entry-level process technician roles are now available through a structured training programme, with a Certificate III in Process Plant Operations awarded to trainees at the successful completion of the 18-month programme.
Rio Tinto Yarwun general manager Mike Dunstan said: "We encourage people from all walks of life to apply. In addition to experienced operators, we're looking for women and men after a career change."
He added: "Employing locals is our number one priority in this recruitment campaign. We want to attract the best candidates from Gladstone."
The training programme will teach people how to monitor, operate and maintain the plant in line with ongoing safety, quality, production and cost objectives.
Positions are also available for experienced operators who can bring their existing knowledge and skills with them to Yarwun.
To succeed in this role applicants will need to show experience working in a team environment, a willingness to learn and to solve problems. Applicants will need a minimum of Year 10 or equivalent secondary education to apply.
