According to Outotec, the Modular Paste Backfill Plant (MPB 80) is both compact and cost-effective, producing high-quality paste backfill.

The plant components are pre-assembled off-site and delivered in larger, pre-engineered modules, enabling a shorter interval between order placement, installation and start-up.

It is also presented as an alternative to installing a concrete batching-style plant reconfigured for producing paste backfill.

"A high-quality backfill system is vital to ensure mine integrity and the safety of personnel, as well as to minimise the volume of tailings that need to be directed to tailings dams on the surface," the company said.

"With a dedicated paste backfill plant, mines can produce high-quality paste at a lower cost than is possible with modified concrete plants and larger, previous-generation paste backfill plants."

The MPB 80 is a wet tailings solution that utilises 80m2 of vacuum disc filtration. It features a combined paste mixer and hopper in place of separate units, meaning both plant size and maintenance requirements are reduced.

Outotec said its benefits included a reduced capex, without compromising on quality, and a lower opex over the mine life due to highly accurate binder addition.

The MPB 80 is particularly suitable for mines with an ore production capacity of between 0.7Mtpa and 1Mtpa.
