Epiroc to deliver tech to greenfield mine

Epiroc, an equipment supplier for the mining industry, has won a large order for surface mining equipment from IAMGOLD in Canada for the greenfield Cote Gold mine in Ontario, Canada.

The company said it would deliver Pit Viper 231 and SmartROC D65 drill rigs for the site, an under-construction open-pit gold mine due to start production in the second half of 2023.

It claimed the technology, worth approximately US$15 million (SEK130 million), will optimise safety and productivity through advanced automation; the Pit Vipers will be fully autonomous.

Helen Hedblom, Epiroc's president and chief executive officer, said the order shows that IAMGOLD takes safety, sustainability and productivity "extremely seriously".

The Pit Viper 231 and SmartROC D65 surface drill rigs are built to face the most challenging conditions while optimising productivity, safety and fuel efficiency.

Advanced features include Epiroc's telematics system Certiq, which allows for automated and intelligent monitoring of productivity and machine performance.
