Under the five-year deal, PKG will provide receiving, storage and ship-loading services for 100% of the concentrates of both zinc and copper from Woodlawn. An option to extend is also available.

The product will be transported from the site via road to the Outer Harbour facility for unloading and warehousing, according to the contract’s terms.

PKG was first formed in the 1980s for the purpose of servicing the previous operations of the Woodlawn mine. Its facilities now include a two-berth jetty, as well as hardstand areas, ship-loading and unloading equipment, ancillary structures and handling and temporary storage equipment. Today it serves as an export location for copper concentrates from New South Wales operations in addition to other bulk commodities.

“Port Kembla Gateway…is delighted to be able to provide a cost effective, safe and environmentally responsible solution for Heron to deliver their zinc and copper concentrates in bulk to export markets,” PKG managing director Doyle Cook said.

“The port services contract delivers a significant increase in movements through Port Kembla Gateway, eventually lifting our concentrate movements by more than 25%, which will have flow-on benefits for the port and the local community."
