The four-year programme in Queensland and Western Australia is designed to pair together students with experienced colleagues at various Thiess projects across the country.

The company said apprentices, who have their college fees and other costs covered by Thiess and are provided with full PPE and a uniform, should be self-motivated, conscientious and committed to developing a resources industry career.

All candidates must have completed high school by August 1, 2018, and have passing English and maths grades. If over 21, applicants need only provide a driver's license. Queensland applications will be required to relocate to the mine site area if not currently living locally, and WA applicants will be fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) from Perth.

Apprentices should also be willing to relocate to another Thiess site if requirements at their current site change, even if that move is interstate.

"Shortlisted applicants will progress through a structured recruitment process, which can involve participation in an assessment centre, formal interview, medical examination including drug and alcohol testing, and reference checking," Thiess said, adding individuals will be required to complete 16 weeks full-time training in Brisbane prior to starting on a project.

The application period closes April 27, 2018. The programme commences in August. An application can be started here.
