The decision by NTPC, which was formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, comes just over a year after it terminated a similar contract with BGR Mining and Infra for Chhattisgarh mine over allegations of corruption.
Talaipalli has a production capacity of 18 million tonnes per year for surface mining and 0.72 t/yr for underground mining. Coal mined there is being used at the 1.6GW Lara power project owned by NTPC in Chhattisgarh.
Tamil Nadu-based Thriveni Earthmovers specialises in mining iron ore, copper, coal and bauxite, according to its website.
Thriveni Earthmovers also revealed a targeted export volume of around 5.54 million tonnes of iron ore for the current fiscal year, which would make it the third-largest Indian iron ore exporter, a company source told S&P Global Platts.
