SNC-Lavalin wins US$30M Coeur contract

Canadian engineering and construction company SNC-Lavalin has won a contract worth US$30 million to provide construction management services at Coeur Mining's expansion project at the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, US.

Expansion expected to maintain current workforce and full production activities until 2033.

Expansion expected to maintain current workforce and full production activities until 2033.

The contract started in the fourth quarter of 2020 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

The new contract win was aligned with SNC-Lavalin's new strategy of moving forward in the Services segment, the company said.

"SNC-Lavalin's Mining & Metallurgy strategic plan is gaining traction with this mandate. It is an example of the mining services work that our team is winning across our core geographies, including the United States," said Cesar Inostroza, SNC-Lavalin's senior vice president, mining and metallurgy.

"This award ... leverages our knowledge of the Rochester mine and engineering expertise from the previous phase of this project and expands our work in the US," he said.

The expansion project includes the construction of a new crushing plant with a primary, secondary and tertiary crushing circuit, a 300 million tonnes heap leach pad, a new Merrill Crowe process plant, and upgrades to existing electrical utility system infrastructure, including a new substation and power distribution lines.

The expansion work is expected to maintain the current workforce and support full production activities at the openpit operation until 2033.

Coeur's Rochester mine is 100 miles northeast of Reno, Nevada.
