ThoroughTec Simulation will be supplying Ferreyros and Volcan with its fourth-generation Cybermine full-mission simulator, operator familiarisation trainers and e-learning systems. According to ThoroughTec, this will provide Volcan with a complete training solution to optimise its heavy equipment workforce.

Renzo Muente Barzotti, human development manager at Volcan, commented: “One of the main goals is to achieve a high level of skilled operators that are committed to the company and have the opportunity to develop and grow professionally thanks to their knowledge and experience.”

He added that the incorporation of ThoroughTec’s Cybermine workforce optimisation solutions will bring a reduction in training time, reduce risks associated with field training and help to recreate specific scenarios that would be difficult to replicate in the real world.

Yauli’s new Cybermine simulator is the centre’s second after an underground drill rig sim was commissioned last year.

José Ignacio Porras, vice-president of Americas at ThoroughTec, said: “Over the past few years we have rapidly increased our range of surface and underground simulators for Cat equipment operators.”

Underground loaders are a vital cog in the production cycle of a mine, so they need to be operated as efficiently and safely as possible. “It’s imperative that operators of expensive equipment know how to react to emergency situations correctly and operate in a cost-effective manner,” added Porras.

Rodolfo Gerstein Patron, development manager for technical personnel and training at Ferreyros, commented: “From experience, Ferreyros has found that simulators help operators to correct errors in less time and at a lower cost than in real operations, without putting the equipment, facilities and especially themselves and other employees at risk. We will continue to invest in this technology.”

These Cybermine simulators will also be some of the highest heavy equipment training simulators in the world, as Yauli is located over 4,000m above sea level. According to ThoroughTec, its military simulation credentials ensure that the Cybermine products are designed to withstand harsh conditions, including high altitudes.
