The one-day event, set to be held at the United Steelworkers Hall, was designed to bring together industry leadership to discuss the future of digital technology, as well as common challenges and requirements to support the transformation.

Some of the conference’s speakers include Dundee president and CEO Rick Howes, Glencore sustainable development and innovation manager Kevin Mcauley and Greg Sandblom of Sudbury Integrated Nickel.

A technology trade show and networking events are also part of the day’s agenda.

“The conference is really for anyone who wants to plug into where the mines are going from a digital transformation perspective,” PACE project manager Neha Singh told local media, adding that the mining industry is a good example of a sector that hasn't consistently embraced digital innovation underground for numerous reasons such as connectivity.

“Now, because technology has advanced so far, getting access to things like Wi-Fi underground, and communication from underground to surface is getting easier. Mines are now asking: Why don't they know, and why can't they get transparency; how much are we producing on a regular basis; how can we manage safety, when we clear out a mine, that we haven't left anyone behind?"

A growing series of reports, each focused on a key discussion point for the mining sector, brought to you by the Mining Magazine Intelligence team.
