Metso said the Vertimill VTM-4500 stirred mill would be the largest of its kind to be installed in the country.

According to the Finland-based industrial group, the mill could provide a low total cost of ownership - compared with other grinding mills in many applications - due to its high energy efficiency, reduced media consumption, low installation cost, and minimal liner wear and maintenance.

Vertimill can handle feed sizes up to 6mm and grinding to products less than 20 microns, and it is available in standard mill sizes ranging from 15HP (11kW) to 4,500HP (3,352kW).

PT Agincourt Resources operations director Darryn McClelland said Metso won the competitive tender process for the additional milling capacity, which was needed for the process design created by PTAR in collaboration with Orway Minerals and Ausenco.

"Engagement with Metso in Indonesia supporting this work and their ability locally was also important when selecting the appropriate vendor," he said.

Ben Weetman, vice president for Asia Pacific at Metso, added that the mine had already used Metso crushers and additional equipment in its production process.

"The Vertimill is an excellent choice for further increasing their comminution circuit's output," he noted.

Metso is expecting to commission the mill, which has been booked as part of its March-quarter orders, by July 2021.

PTAR is an Indonesia-based mining company engaged in exploration, mining and mineral processing of gold and silver. Its sole operating site is the Martabe gold mine in Sumatra.
