Under the scope of the work Aqura is tasked with upgrading and extending technology and communications infrastructure at accommodation sites around Newman in WA's Pilbara, with work already getting started.

As part of the work program Aqura will design, procure and construct point-to-point microwaves plus data over cable service interface specification and fibre-optic infrastructure, which will essentially upgrade the in-room Wi-Fi.

Work is expected to wind-up in November.

Aqura Technologies CEO Travis Young said it was pleasing to be able to leverage the skills of its in-house team to weave together a tapestry of technologies that would ensure an enhanced user experience for BHP's employees.

"The upgrades will provide a solid foundation for current and future users to access reliable and high-quality communications whilst working for extended periods in very remote areas," he said.

"These technologies are increasingly recognised by mine operators as critical to the health and wellbeing of the workforces that service these operations."

Aqura has also secured a 12-month extension to the master services agreement with BHP.

The initial three-year deal struck in July 2020 involved the provision of in-room communications and entertainment system services across BHP's Pilbara accommodation villages.
