DRA's full scope for the BFS includes mining, backfill, ore transport, process plant and infrastructures. The underground mine, which will use multiple mining methods including room-and-pillar/bord-and-pillar and long-hole stoping, is expected to produce 3.3Mt/y of ore.
The BFS, specifically awarded to DRA's Montreal office, should be completed in the June quarter of next year.
Pierre Julien, DRA executive vice president Americas, said the group and the miner have been working together for almost two years, culminating their partnership with the contract.
Tizert, said to be the largest copper deposit in Morocco's western Anti-Atlas copper belt, will use an aerial ropeway system to convey ore from the mine to the process plant across a canyon that is 800m wide and 250m deep.
