Becker Mining Systems now has the right to resell Ericsson's 5G solutions in many countries, including Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Chile, France, Germany, and Poland. The companies are working on plans to expand the agreement to additional countries.
"Connected mine projects are the future of the mining industry," Becker chief executive Franz Becker said.
These technologies guarantee "efficiency, greater profitability, safety for miners and less environmental impact".
By using Ericsson's 5G and Private 5G, mining companies are able to automate ventilation systems, gas monitoring, real-time vehicle and personnel tracking, telemetry of production equipment and remote control of production equipment.
A recent report conducted by Ericsson and consulting firm Arthur D. Little found implementing technological solutions is forecast to treble productivity growth in the mining market by 2025.
"Ericsson and Becker are working together to create data-driven mines around the world," Ericsson's head of dedicated networks Thomas Noren said.
