One of the barriers to a greater take-up in future-looking fleet technologies was the higher capital cost for such machines, but the growing pressure from governments and investors has forced miners to tackle the greenhouse-gas emissions their fleets produce.
This year, drill rigs – among some of the most difficult plant to electrify – have begun to take off, both in open pits and underground.
Methodology
The data for our analysis has been aggregated through a global research effort, using basic desktop resources combined with qualitative interviews with operators and suppliers wherever possible. The profiles look at the most exciting projects and how they are changing their fleets to tackle climate change, make efficiency gains, and improve health and safety.
