Horizonte's Araguaia to get power link-up

The package, which permits the placement of a 120-kilometre, 230KV power line and respective substation, will link the Araguaia site to the national power grid and give it all of its power requirement needs at nameplate capacity.

Power supply will be hydroelectric, which will allow Horizonte to make a low-CO2-per-tonne product.

The approval was given by the Pará State Environmental Agency, Secretaria de Meio Ambiente e Sustentabilidade (SEMAS).

"Araguaia is already fully permitted to start construction," Horizonte CEO Jeremy Martin said.

"The award…further de-risks the project by securing the full power requirement for commercial operation."

The miner did not indicate a further timeline, but said it would update its plans in the coming months.

Horizonte owns 100% of Araguaia. It also wholly-owns the Vermelho nickel-cobalt project.
