Boston-based Cabot Corporation has expanded its product line of elastomer composites which are used in the retreading of off-the-road (OTR) tires.

The Engineered Elastomer Composite product line is provided in a pre-mixed form. The rubber compounders can create slightly different products for different needs without requiring specialty fillers.

Elastomers are a term derived from ‘elastic polymers'; materials referred to as elastomers are able to be stretched significantly but are able to return to their initial shape.

Cabot E2C products have been used by rubber compounders in both tangential and intermesh types of mixers.

Customers can use the E2C products to use both pre-cure and strip winding processes to retread OTR tires.

The E2C products can be used with retreaders and rubber compound suppliers to extend the life of the retreat by up to 30%.

Using the compounds in the retreads helps mining companies be more environmental by extending the life of their tires, and improves productivity at mine sites by decreasing the amount of operational downtime.

"In addition to enabling further reductions in cost per hour, the use of E2C solutions in OTR retreads can extend retreading into the most demanding OTR applications," Cabot Engineered Elastomer Composites Vice President David Reynolds said.
