Immersive Technologies, a supplier of simulation equipment to the mining industry, has deployed two IM360-B Advanced Equipment Simulators and blended learning products to the Olympias mine in the Halkidiki Peninsula in Northern Greece as part of a workforce training project.

The company said the simulator equipment would be implemented on the mine's Sandvik underground loader, underground truck, drill and bolter. Additionally, professional services from the company would support the implementation.

Hellas Gold, the mine's owner, has become the first mining company in Greece to deploy simulation-based training from Immersive Technologies in Greece; the company is a subsidiary of Eldorado Gold.

The Olympias mine has gold, silver, lead, and zinc deposits and is being modernised to improve production rates and efficiency. According to Immersive Technologies, the technology will "improve operator performance and safety and enhance workforce development strategies."

Johan Stemmet, regional vice-president, EMEA, at Immersive Technologies, said the new technologies would result in "a highly productive mine site," commenting that it is "an exciting time for mining in Greece."
