Minerals processing operations are constantly challenged with maximizing production rates, yields, energy efficiency, and process stability. Advanced Process Control (APC) has proven to be an effective tool for improving operations by capturing the full process capabilities consistently. As well, process stability and reliability are enhanced while honoring product quality, equipment, and emissions constraints.

However, the speed at which this technology, as well as the sustenance of these significant benefits, is often applied has been hampered by the usability of the software and adaptability of the applications.

Recent technology enhancements have improved the usability and adaptability of APC, including more intuitive user interfaces, customizable models, fast, flexible OPC connection tools, automated model building, integration with first principles dynamic models and improved performance monitoring.

These innovative solutions must be carefully designed, taking into account the operating culture, sources of benefits, and the availability and reliability of instrumentation.

This presentation will discuss the new technology developments that have improved the usability and adaptability of APC applications, innovative approaches to designing, implementing and sustaining the applications and how this technology has had a positive impact on mineral processing operations.
